Our website finally gets a makeoever! - February 2010

Yes, we’ve decided to start the year by giving our website a complete makeover, introducing a fresh new look and some new features. Our aim was to build a site which easy to use and navigate, as well as portray the right image for the society. Over time we want to build on this foundation in a number of ways, putting the website at the heart of our communications and activities – or at least the off-stage activities!

We would also like make the website interesting to our followers and valued audiences, making it as interactive as possible and full of great content.

With this in mind, we would love to hear from you about your thoughts, both on our new website and ideas for future developments and content.  Send us an email with your comments.

Tragedy turns to laughter; we proud to present our spring production - February 2010

After the disappointment of having to withdraw the planned production of Popcorn, the Players are pleased to announce that their spring production will now be ‘Break a leg’ which has been written by ‘local lad’, Blake Coleman.

Break a leg is a light hearted look at the world of amateur dramatics and plots the highs and lows of putting on a show. The story begins with the fictional committee sitting to discuss and decide upon what show they want to put on.  The audience will then be taken on a journey which takes in auditions, rehearsals and the show itself, culminating in the famous ‘after show party’.

Packed with incident and characters – all of which are fiction we hasten to add, to avoid any offence – this show promises to have something for everyone. You don’t have to be interested in amateur dramatics to enjoy this show.

The show will be directed by Bella Coleman, who has a lot of directing experience, most recently with directing Dracula for the Players. Bella also happens to be Blake’s mum, making this show a real family affair. Bella comments, “It is a real honour to be asked to direct anything for the Players, but with this play being written by my son I am even more excited than normal. It is great to be able to direct something new and fresh which people won’t have seen before.”

Break a Leg will be showing in Buckden on 23rd & 24th April and in St Neots from 13th to 15th May. Visit our tickets page for ticket information.

Author, Bob Hammond, gives Robin Hood - The Panto the thumbs up January 2010

After surprising the cast and crew by turning up unannounced to watch to watch ‘Robin Hood – The Pantomime’, Bob Hammond who wrote the script for this show has been in touch to congratulate the Players on a job well done.

Bob and his wife braved the pre-Christmas snow to come and watch the show, travelling up from his home in Hampshire. After the show he made his presence known to the director, Marina Coleman-Rivers, and later followed up with an email.

In his email, Bob writes, “I want to tell you how much I enjoyed your production of Robin Hood. You had a very good cast which is always a bonus and I was very pleased to hear your compliments about the script.  But even the best script can be undone by a lack-lustre production and yours was totally the opposite of that. Please pass my congratulations on to your cast and crew.”

Thank you Bob for your kind comments and we are pleased you enjoyed the show.

The Players will soon be announcing this year’s Christmas production, so keep checking our website for details. If you would like to know more about our Christmas production, would like to sign up for our newsletter or if you just have something you'd like to get off your chest then get in touch.
